Belinda Carlisle – Mad About You – Live

Oh dear the stories I could tell about this song and subsequent ones from Belinda Carlisle. Friday nights after happy hour and doing the drive around the houses to get ready for more fun. Fortunately this is one I can remember first seeing and it was on one of the Saturday morning music programs. Probably Rage. Fell in love with Belinda from the first sighting, and yes her singing wasn’t too bad either. Blonde California girls are great.

Have no recollection of her or the band The Go Gos which is weird because I know the songs and being a Fast Times At Ridgemont High fan, you would think I would remember something.

David Bowie – Modern Love – Live

Another artist that I have no idea how I first listened to and then became a fan. Like others, probably from albums like Ripper 76 or maybe Countdown. Thanks Molly. The earliest memory of this song is a couple of years after it was released when he played it as part of his set at Live Aid in 1985. His performance that day was one of my favourites from the entire concert, along with U2′s of course.

Alice Cooper – School’s Out – Live

Can’t remember how I became an Alice Cooper fan. My first memory is driving down to the beach with a couple of friends and we were listening to a cassette (yes it was that long ago) and I Took That Serious came on. The standout line, “All of my life was a laugh and a joke, And a drink and a smoke, And then I passed out on the floor.”

It was probably just that he had a few songs on compilation albums that we were given on birthdays and Christmas.

Pink – Dear Mr President – Live

All right, I’m an idiot. When this song came out I really liked it, not the message, just the song in general although I do think musicians have a great opportunity to change the world’s thinking with songs like this. Why I am an idiot is because whilst I knew about the Pink / Linda Perry link, I never put two and two together because 4 Non Blondes also had a song of the same name on their 1992 album Bigger, Better, Faster, More. Plus it is the song on that album that I probably liked the most. Universal Music Group don’t let you embed their YouTube videos so if you wish to listen, here’s the 4 Non Blondes song of the same name.

Harvey Danger – Flagpole Sitta – Live

Another of those songs where I only know this one and none of the others from Harvey Danger. Perhaps that accounts for why you can’t just buy this individual song on Amazon or iTunes and you have to buy an album. Weird. The song has also been featured in a few films such as American Pie, Scooby Doo and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star.
